EA FC 25: How to win against fast players
Playing against teams with fast players in EA FC 25 can be dangerous. Counter-attacks are utilised quickly and spaces are played out - but speed alone is not everything. With the right strategy, you can turn the tide.
Play defensively
In order to utilise their speed at all, fast players need a lot of space. With the right defensive tactics, you can minimise the space and reduce the speed.
- Deep defensive line: Adjust your defensive line accordingly and set it deep so that nobody can get behind your defenders - fast runs or quick passes near your goal are history.
- Reduce defensive width: If your defenders are close together, the opponent cannot pass through the centre. Pushing fast wingers to the outside like this makes them far less dangerous.
- Support from midfield: The opponent's build-up can be stopped early on if defensively strong players in midfield close down the space in front of the defence.
Control tempo and utilise ball possession
To slow down fast opponents, it can be an advantage to hold the ball longer and build up the game according to your own speed. It is therefore important to secure possession of the ball:
- Favour short passes. Make sure you play a controlled passing game with short passes to keep the ball with you. If you lose it, fast opponents will immediately have the advantage again.
- Use double passes and triangles. Close spacing between your plays and lots of double passes allow fast players to run properly and burn off energy. This makes dangerous sprints much less problematic.
Targeted tempo changes
Not only controlling the speed of the game but also varying it can give you further advantages.
- Vary phases of the game: Control the tempo through long ball possession, but switch directly as soon as a gap is found. You can continue to maintain control, but still suddenly surprise your opponent's defence.
- Even a fast opponent can have gaps in their defence if you change tactics quickly enough and switch from your reduced tempo to a fast game in the right situation.
- Tactical foul: In case of doubt, a tactical foul can also be helpful. Sometimes it is necessary to stop the game at all costs to prevent a free run.
New features and tactical adjustments
EA FC 25 even has new customisation options to prepare your team specifically for fast opponents. This allows you to change and adapt your tactics as the game progresses.
- Switching tactics: Dynamic Tactics allows you to set game plans in advance and switch between them depending on the game situation. A compact formation in the defensive phase and a quick switch to an offensive alignment as soon as the opportunity arises can be decisive.
- Special defence strategies: A tactic with a deep defensive line and a lot of ball possession ensures security. You can force your opponent to take more risks, especially from a leading position.
- Pressing: The "Pressing after losing the ball" feature ensures that pressure is immediately exerted on the opponent after losing the ball. This prevents fast teams from switching quickly.
Counterattack
Fast opponents don't mean that you shouldn't or can't use your chances to counterattack. A skilful switch in tactics can work wonders.
- Vertical passes: As soon as you have the ball, you can quickly exploit the space behind your opponent's defence with quick, vertical passes to the top.
- Attacking AI: EA FC 25's better attacking AI allows players to launch into space better when you counter-attack. Make sure that the players run deep to be able to counter-attack particularly quickly.
- Counter-pressing: The counter-pressing feature puts a lot of pressure on the opponent the moment you lose the ball. The opponent is taken by surprise and cannot counter-attack directly.
Playing against fast players requires a lot of patience and clever tactical adjustments. However, the position of the defensive line, controlling the tempo and, above all, the new tactical features in EA FC 25 can help you to deprive opponents who rely on speed of their advantages.
