Baldur's Gate 3: Beginner's Guide - Exploration

Baldurs Gate 3 Einsteigerleitfaden Kampf

Baldur’s Gate 3 impresses not only with its open game world, but also with the immense freedom you have in your decisions and your play style - something that few fantasy role-playing games offer in this depth. To help you find your way around right from the start, we have put together the most important tips for beginners.

As a deep and complex role-playing game based on Baldur’s Gate 3 on the rules of dungeons & Dragons (D&D)and offers countless opportunities for character development and storytelling.

Especially for newcomers, the huge world with its numerous mechanics can seem overwhelming at first - but don't worry, with the right basics you'll soon find your way around!

As the game does not explain every detail in detail, we have compiled the most important tips for the battle.

The combat system - strategy is everything

Baldur’s Gate 3 relies on a turn-based combat system that is strongly modelled on the rules of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D)is based on. Each character can perform one movement, one action and one bonus action per round, so every move needs to be well thought out.

Tactical thinking is the key to victory

Every decision affects the battle - from initiative, which determines who attacks first, to positioning and height advantage, which influence hit chances and damage.

Players have numerous opportunities to assert themselves in battle:

  • Use attacks and spells wisely - Use your resources wisely to turn the tide.
  • Use the environment creatively - pushing opponents into chasms, setting fire to explosive barrels or creating slippery surfaces can be crucial to the game.
  • Pay attention to dice rolls - Your chances of scoring also depend on the luck of the dice, so plan your moves carefully.

Important fighting tips:

  •  Utilise height advantage - attacks from above have a higher chance of hitting.
  •  Start ambushes - Sneak up on enemies and start the fight with a critical hit.
  • Pay attention to elemental interactions - fire ignites oil, water increases lightning damage and ice can cause enemies to slip.
  • Take cover - Use walls or rocks to protect yourself from long-range attacks.
  • Combine classes cleverly - A rogue can poison enemies, while a mage can finish them off with fire spells.

Fights in Baldur’s Gate 3 reward clever tactics - use your surroundings, combine your skills and outwit your opponents to emerge victorious!

The right team

In Baldur’s Gate 3 you can travel with up to four characters, and a balanced party composition is crucial for success. Each role in the team has its strengths - a well-coordinated group can survive difficult battles and overcome a variety of challenges.

The optimal distribution of roles:

  • Tank (frontline fighter) - Withstands damage and protects the group.
➡ Recommended classes: Barbarian, Paladin, Fighter
  • Healer/Supporter - Provides the team with healing and buffs.
➡ Recommended classes: Cleric, Druid, Bard
  • Ranged combat or mage - Deals massive damage from a distance.
➡ Recommended classes: Mage, Warlock, Ranger
  • Versatile character - takes on theft, dialogue and tricks.
➡ Recommended classes: Rogue, Bard, Ranger

  • Baldur’s Gate 3 PC system requirements: You need this hardware

Why balance is important

A tank on the front line keeps opponents at bay and prevents weaker characters from being attacked.

Healers and supporters provide the necessary survivability and can strengthen allies.

Mages and ranged fighters do a lot of damage, but need to be protected.

Rogues or bards are useful for disarming traps, sneaking and social interactions.

Of course, you can also experiment and adapt to your play style - but a versatile squad makes for a dynamic and smooth adventure!
