EA FC 25: Is the Icon Upgrade SBC worth it?
With the new Icon Upgrade SBC in EA FC 25, you have the chance to add one of the legendary icons to your Ultimate Team collection. But there are a few things you should keep in mind.
The Icon Upgrade SBC
The Icon Upgrade SBC gives you access to one of the many legendary player icons. Compared to other icon upgrades, however, there is one restriction: the maximum total player rating is 88, which means that only 49 of the available icons are included in this package. There is still a certain amount of risk involved, as you don't know which icon awaits you - but with a bit of luck, you'll pick a player who will give your team a real boost on the pitch. Important facts about the Icon Upgrade SBC:
- Cost: approx. 330,000 UT coins
- Limit: Maximum 88 overall rating
- Available cards: 49 icons
- Market value: More than half of the icons have a value on the transfer market that is higher than their SBC cost.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Icon Upgrade SBC
Advantages:
- Opportunity for high-priced icons: As there are around 30 icons whose market value is higher than the SBC cost, the chances of drawing a valuable card that strengthens the team are not bad.
- Nostalgia factor: Icons not only offer strong values, but also embody legendary football personalities. For many FIFA fans, collecting and playing with these legends is a real highlight and brings a piece of football history into the game.
- Gameplay advantages: Some icons have special play styles and attributes that can turn them into real game changers, even with a "lower" overall rating of 88 or less, and provide game-changing moments.
Disadvantages:
- High cost: At 330,000 coins, this SBC is anything but cheap - especially when you consider that 19 of the possible icons are trading well below this value. So there is a considerable risk involved here.
- Risk of unsuitable cards: It can happen that you draw an icon that neither fits your playing style nor your team perfectly. This makes the investment a bit of a grab bag, the outcome of which remains uncertain.
- No resale: Once obtained, the icon remains in your club and cannot be sold on the transfer market. This means that whether you are happy or not, you have to accept the result as it is.
Strategies for the Icon Upgrade SBC
Should you decide to try your hand at the Icon Upgrade SBC, there are tactics that will help you minimise the risk and still make your investment worthwhile.
- Consider your team needs: Think carefully about whether you need reinforcement for a particular position. Some icons, even with a maximum overall rating of 88, are real assets and could complement your team perfectly.
- Use non-exchangeable cards: An important tip for saving coins. If possible, fill the SBCs with non-exchangeable cards from your club, especially with players that you have drawn from packs and will not be using. This will significantly reduce your coin costs.
- Carry out a market analysis: Keep an eye on the prices of the icons included. This will give you a better idea of which players are valuable and whether the SBC is worthwhile for you, especially if the potential profit fits well into your team.
- Set yourself a budget: Check whether you can afford the SBC without sacrificing your entire budget. The risk is more justifiable if you still have enough coins left for other team improvements after the SBC.
The decision as to whether the Icon Upgrade SBC to 88 overall rating in EA FC 25 is worthwhile depends heavily on your willingness to take risks and your goals in the game. Another important factor is your coin budget and whether you already have enough non-exchangeable cards in your club to reduce costs.
For the risk-takers: Absolutely! The chance to draw a valuable icon worth significantly more than 330,000 coins can be very tempting. Especially since 30 of the 49 possible icons are above this value and almost all of them are already capable of significantly improving your team.
If you'd rather play it safe and invest your coins elsewhere, or don't have any non-exchangeable cards available, then don't do it. Go for other, cheaper SBCs that help your team in a more targeted way. Maybe the new Trailblazers promo will bring a card that perfectly suits your playstyle and involves less risk.
