Final Fantasy XIV Mobile announced
One of the most successful games in the Final Fantasy franchise is getting its own mobile game and playtests should start soon.
As announced by Lightspeed Studio in co-operation with Square Enix, they are currently working on Final Fantasy XIV for iOs and Android. The first playtests under the supervision of FF producer Yoshida are due to start soon in China and will continue shortly afterwards all over the world.
A sister for FF XIV
Yoshida explained that the game is to be seen as a kind of sister to Final Fantasy XIV, transferring the storytelling and combat mechanics of the classic to mobile gaming. This could be promising, looking back on the career of the original game, whose fanbase is still growing today.
In the mobile game, the player is tasked by the Mother Crystal with bringing the light of hope back to the world of Hydaelyn. In doing so, he must prove his skills in battle, whereby the melee controls have been optimised for mobile devices.
A huge world full of possibilities
Players can choose from a variety of races with unique backgrounds and skills and assign them to one of nine professions - which will be expanded over time. Switching between professions on the fly provides a unique, flexible gaming experience that is not limited to battle, but also includes fishing, card games and the popular chocobo races.
The design of your own home and outfit as well as various seasonal festivities round off the gaming experience.
Alone or with the community
Fittingly for a mobile game, the developers also want to integrate the community feeling into the game. Users can go on adventures alone, travel together with friends or meet new people and get carried away by the dynamics of the community.
As the playtests have just been announced, it is still too early to say when the game will be playable for the general public, but if the team succeeds in realising what they have planned, it will definitely be worth the wait.
