Fortnite: The most common errors and how to fix them
Nothing is worse than when the planned gaming session falls through due to technical problems. That's why we've put together a collection of the most common problems you may encounter in Fortnite - and how to fix them.
Server status
The official Fortnite Twitter account will keep you constantly updated on the current status of the servers and special events. If your game is not doing what it should, this is always the first place you should consult.
If this does not help you, you can find further solutions here.
Fortnite launcher does not install
If you want to play Fortnite, you must first install Epic Games Launcher. However, many players receive the error message “The installation package is not supported by this processor type.
In this case, it could be due to your 32-bit operating system, as the launcher requires a 64-bit operating system. Epic Games has not supported 32-bit systems since June 2024. In this case, you may have to reload the system.
Error at startup: Fortnite does not start or load
After you have successfully installed the launcher, the next errors may already occur. Sometimes there are problems starting up or Fortnite does not even load. If your PC fulfils the specified system requirements, you can try the following:
- Restart your PC - believe us, this can often work wonders.
- Save your progress from PvE mode, if you have played it, and reinstall the game.
- Check whether your drivers (graphics card, DirectX etc.) are up-to-date and update them if necessary.
- Verify your gaming files: Find out how this works hier chez Epic Games.
Windows Defender blocks Fornite
If none of this has helped, there are two other possible solutions, but they require a little more effort. One possible cause of the problem could be that Windows Defender is marking the game as malware. Follow these steps to add Fortnite as an exception:
- Gebt „Windows Security“ in the Windows search.
- Opens „Virus and threat protection“.
- Scroll down and click on „Manage settings“.
- Search for the point „Manage exclusions“ and clicks on „Add or remove exclusions“.
- Presses „Add exclusion“ and select the Fortnite folder.
- Now restart the game and with a bit of luck Fortnite should now work for you.
Réparer les anti-catastrophes
Did that not help either? Then the in-house anti-cheat programme from Epic Games could be causing the problem. You can carry out the repair directly in the Epic Launcher. Proceed as follows:
- Search for the installation path for the Epic Launcher. Simply enter „Epic Games“ in the Windows search and then right-click on „Open file storage location“ and then right-click again on „Open file path“.
- Copies the complete path that is displayed at the top of the address bar of the file explorer. It could look like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Binaries\Win64.
- There you should find a EasyAntiCheat folder. Go there and open the file „EasyAntiCheatSetup“.
- You will now be offered the opportunity to repair the anti-cheat. Carry out this process and perhaps your start-up problem will finally be resolved.
Login failed
If you have connected your Epic Games account to multiple platforms, the error message „Login failed“ appear. If you have switched from PC to PS4, for example, you will have to work around this problem. This is how it works:
- Create a new account withEpic Games on the PC. You must do this on the computer, as you will need to make further settings there.
- Log in with your old account and disconnect from the PSN- or Xbox Live-account, depending on which platform you played on.
- Now create a new connection between the two accounts.
- You should now be able to log in with your new account without any problems.
The fault lies in the Cross-save function, between the computer and the consoles. If logging in has failed, this solution should solve the problem.
Settings are not saved
Error: „Download of the controlled settings failed.“
This problem occurs frequently, which is why there are a few possible solutions. Firstly, try the following:
- Opens the folder „Local“, by entering the following in the Windows search: %localappdata%.
- Search for the folder „FortniteGame“ and follows the path: Saved → Config → WindowsClient.
- Click with the right mouse button on GamesUserSettings.ini and opens the Properties.
- Deactivates the tick for „Schreibgeschützt“ and clicks on „Take over“.
- Now try launching Fortnite and hopefully the issue has been resolved.
It could also be that Windows Defender plays a role here and is unintentionally causing the problem. If this is the case, you can try to allow access. However, please note that theMonitored folder access is a security feature that can be quite useful.
- Opens „Virus and threat protection“.
- Scroll down and click on „Manage ransomware protection“.
- Removes the tick from „Monitored folder access“, if this is activated.
If that didn't help either or „Monitored folder access“ was not activated for you, you can try the following: Deactivate all third-party monitoring tools such as Bitdefender, McAfee, Norton etc. and see if it works now.
If the problem persists, reinstalling the game could be the final solution.
Problems with matchmaking in the group
If the group can't connect or joining the group is not possible, you have probably encountered the famous matchmaking problem, which is usually related to the servers. Therefore, always keep an eye on the social media channels of Epic Games, to stay informed about possible faults.
For consoles: You can consider a manual network connection and use the DNS server fromGoogle use. To do this, change the DNS to 8.8.8.8, instead of having it selected automatically.
For the PC: You can use the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) customise. Proceed as follows:
- Opens the System control and chooses System and security from.
- Navigates toSystem - Advanced system settings - Extended.
- Under Data execution prevention you can add Fortnite as an exception if you activate the second point.
- To make the changes effective, simply restart the PC.
These adjustments should hopefully solve the matchmaking problem.
Adjust screen size and prevent zoom
Many patches and updates from developers are both a curse and a blessing - although many bugs are fixed, new bugs can appear elsewhere. Currently, both PC- as well as Console gamer the problem that the screen is enlarged or the field of view is reduced. This is caused by an automatic zoom.
For PC gamer the screen problem has been largely resolved. If the error persists, you can perform the following steps:
- Go to the game menu and select „Settings“.
- Under the tab „Game“ you set the following parameters:
- Turn Invert view „ON“.
- Turn Cancelling the frame rate restriction „On“.
The Resolution is then updated and the problem should no longer occur. If it still persists, check the settings as these are sometimes reset to the default values.
For PS4-Player:
- Go to the game menu and open „Settings“.
- Select the tab „Spiel“ and set the above parameters there.
For Xbox One-player there is the following solution for the unwanted zoom:
- Go to the Settings the console and selects „Affichage & Sound“.
- Click on „Video-Output“.
- Activates the function „HDTV Calibrate“.
- Keep clicking until the screen is displayed correctly again.
In rare cases, the zoom may also have been activated by your TV. Therefore, also take a look at the TV settings, if you want to adjust the screen size.
Network connection cancelled
You want to play, but your network connection keeps dropping out? Unfortunate, but possibly solvable.
Error code 7, 85, 91, 93, LS-0016 and more
In addition to the problems already mentioned, you may also have encountered an unpleasant error code that makes it impossible to play. It often helps to open the Game data to verify. This is how it works:
- Click in the Lanceur to the Settings from Fortnite and chooses „Verify game data“.
- Alternatively, you can use the Cache of the Epic Launcher. To do this, go to the %localappdata%-Ordner, searches for EpicGamesLauncher → Saved and deletes the Web cache folder. Then restart your PC.
Error code CS-03 means, for example, that there is not enough space on the hard drive for the Fortnite saves. Delete some saves or create space in another way.
Error code 91 indicates network problems - perhaps your provider is experiencing technical difficulties? Otherwise, you can follow the typical steps to check the network connection.
Error code 7 points out that there are server problems at Epic Games, which means that you cannot connect. All that remains is to wait and see.
Error code 93 can sometimes be resolved by deselecting the currently selected skin or by selecting a different skin. Sounds strange, but it often helps.
Support for known bugs
Our tips for an epic victory won't help you much if the screen freezes or goes black. The bug that teleports you under the map is also rarely favourable. Here we collect simple solutions for common errors:
- Screen freezes: If Fortnite launches in Window mode on the PC. This often prevents freezing or a black screen.
- No sprints possible: If your character can no longer run, the only thing that helps is a Restart of the game. Annoying, but often effective.
- Bug teleports players under the map: If you are teleported under the map, you can continue playing, but you should avoid doing so, as this will cause a Bann may result.
There are many other errors that can occur in Fortnite. Take a look at the official Error help-page of Epic Games. With a bit of luck, you'll find a solution there if none of our tips have helped.
