Fresh CS2 update brings weekly missions and impressive community maps
Valve has released an extensive update for Counter-Strike 2, adding new maps to the game for the first time in 2025.
The focus is on the newly introduced weekly missions and five new community maps - first and foremost Jura and Grail, both from the renowned FACEIT x Mapcore „Big Adventures“-mapping competition have emerged.
Whilst the new tasks represent a significant innovation for the game, the main interest of the community is currently focussed on the new maps - in particular on Jura and Grail. These two maps are examples of the creative and thematic level that the competition has fostered.
Weekly missions: A new progression system
The weekly missions introduce a new progression model: players receive new tasks every week, directly accessible via the main or game menu. The reward is additional XP - without a Battle Pass or time-limited events.
This system indicates a possible departure from the traditional „Operation“-model. Valve is apparently increasingly focussing on continuous content instead of infrequent, large content updates - a step to keep players interested in the long term.
Jura: Adventures in the valley of the dinosaurs
Jura takes players to the overgrown ruins of an old fortress in the Jura Mountains of southern Poland. The map combines natural elevations with extensive outdoor areas and stands out clearly from the classic CS2 design thanks to its unusual layout.
The level design combines open, tactical areas with narrow passages, while the visual ambience - characterised by rocks, moss and medieval structures - creates a dense atmosphere. Jura convinces both visually and playfully with strategic depth and fresh impulses for the map design.
Grail: Minigolf meets tactics
In stark contrast to Jura stands Grail – a playful map in the style of a minigolf theme park. With colourful lights, whimsical decorations and fantastic backdrops, it initially appears humorous - but first impressions are deceptive.
Behind the unusual façade is a competitively balanced map design with clear paths, tactical variety and fast gameplay. Grail proves that even unconventional scenarios can offer deep gameplay - and that CS2 boldly pushes creative boundaries.
Agency: The classic in a new guise
Another highlight of the update is the return of the popular hostage map Agency, which was originally introduced in 2013 as part of Operation Bravo. Set in a modern office tower, it features narrow corridors, vertical firefights and intense hostage rescues.
For CS2 Agency technically revised - with improved lighting, new textures and Source 2 optimisations. The charm of the original has been retained, but the map fits seamlessly into the new map line-up around Jura and Grail in.
New features for map rotation and wingman mode
In addition to the three new 5v5 maps, the Dogtown and Brewery is included in the wingman mode. In return Basalt, Edin, Palais and Whistle removed from all game modes.
The updated map groups for casual and deathmatch modes are as follows:
- Defusal Group Alpha: Dust 2, Mirage, Inferno, Vertigo
- Defusal Gruppe Delta: Train, Anubis, Ancient, Overpass, Nuke
- Community Map Group: Jura, Grail, Agency
- Hostage Group: Office, Italy
- Valorant rank protection: All information on the new system
Technical adjustments and audio fixes
The update also brings a number of technical improvements: the feedback for smoke hits has been adjusted, audio dropouts have been fixed and a new option for regulating the main menu volume has been introduced. Obsolete sound console commands have been removed to streamline the developer console.
Minor UI problems have also been fixed - such as the permanent storage of individual key assignments or the automatic blocking of invitations by banned players.
