Fresh stealth thrill: Mudang: Two Hearts combines Korean culture with gripping action
At the Xbox Games Showcase Mudang: Two Hearts presented to the public for the first time. Korean studio EVR is bringing a breath of fresh air to the stealth action genre with this title - and fans of Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid should now sit up and take notice.
A new stealth experience is on the horizon
If you are longing for intelligent sneak gameplay, you will get it with Mudang: Two Hearts a promising overall package. The developers have opted for a captivating mix of storytelling, third-person shooter elements, close combat and, of course, stealth. The release is planned for 2026.
Despite - or perhaps because of - the use of Unreal Engine 5, EVR wants to go its own way: Instead of overloaded effects, the focus is on hyper-realistic character models, dynamic animations, 3D audio and an open level design that offers a wide range of sneaking options. But the real highlight: the storyline.
A Korea that never existed before
Two Hearts is set in a Korea of the near future, in which North and South Korea have been officially united. The longed-for peace seems to be within reach - but behind the scenes, things are simmering. On the day of the historic peace signing, an unknown terrorist group carries out an attack on the South Korean National Assembly.
In the midst of this chaos, you take on the role of Ji Jeongtae, a special agent tasked with uncovering the background to the attacks. A loner on a mission against a sinister organisation called Beolmuban, who has much bigger plans than initially suspected.
The country is under constant surveillance. When the popular K-pop group ORDO The situation escalates when the terrorists storm the stage - and Jeongtae, who is responsible for protecting the event, discovers that there is more to ORDO's star GAVI than meets the eye.
Freedom of action: Sneak or fight
The open level design should offer you maximum freedom of choice: It's up to you whether you move silently through backyards, over steel beams or through the porches of houses, or whether you throw yourself into battle. If your cover is blown, the game transitions smoothly into intense battles - without any breaks in the gameplay.
Tactical depth instead of blunt force
The developers promise an immersive gaming experience in which you have to tactically weigh up stealth, melee and ranged combat. Although you can also shoot your way through brute force, the real appeal lies in the strategy and finesse. The game is modelled on real-life missions by Korean special forces. Motion capturing of real soldiers provides additional authenticity.
Opponents who strike back
The enemies in Mudang are not just targets: they react intelligently to your actions. Heavy infantry, saboteurs with deadly traps, grenade specialists - they all have their own strategies to make life difficult for you. Particularly exciting: Boss opponents use the same tools as you do, making the battles real tests of your skills.
Film-ready production without interruptions
Another highlight: the cutscenes should be seamlessly integrated into the game - no loading times, no hard cuts. The story should captivate you throughout without ever breaking the immersion.
