Ghost of Yōtei was unveiled during the PlayStation State of Play on 24 September 2024 and thrilled fans with an impressive presentation. But behind the picturesque cherry blossom backdrop lies a dark, emotional adventure.
Setting: snow, silence, shadow
The story takes place in the early 17th century, in the remote northern region of Japan Ezo – today's Hokkaidō. Centre of the action: the impressive Berg Yōtei, whose snow-covered silhouette gives the game its name.

Story: The return of the Onryō
Contrary to expectations, the Ghost of Yōtei does not directly follow on from the story of Jin Sakai. Instead, it follows the independent narrative of Atsu, a former mercenary who, after a childhood trauma, has become a Onryō a vengeful spirit from Japanese mythology.
Sixteen years after the massacre of her family Atsu returns to hunt down those responsible: a brutal gang of criminals called Yōtei Six. Each of their enemies has a mystical nickname - the snake, the kitsune, the oni, the spider, the dragon and their leader Lord Saitō.
But Ghost of Yōtei is far more than a gloomy revenge epic. The story also sheds light on topics such asLoss, healing and forgiveness – and offers players more freedom of choice than ever before.
Gameplay: You are the storm
Like its predecessor, the Ghost of Yōtei a Open-World-Actionspiel from the third-person perspective - but with an even stronger focus on Individual playing styles.
Whether you move silently through the undergrowth or make your way through open swordplay: You decide.
Atsu's journey begins with a symbol: that Katana, with which she was once nailed to a ginkgo tree - the leaf of this tree also adorns the logo of the game.
You unlock new weapons as you progress:

- Bows – for deadly precision
- Early firearms – for dramatic accents
Exploration also takes centre stage: you choose which member of the Yōtei Six you meet first. Hunting bounties? Challenge gun senseis? Your way, your pace.
In addition to the action, there are also quiet moments: Gaze at the starry sky, practise sumi-e painting or simply enjoy the silence.
And yes – rideable companions are back again. After all, what could be more epic than riding through misty forests with your sword drawn?
