Hi-Fi Rush returns despite studio closure!
In May 2024, Microsoft closed four studios: Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Games, Roundhouse Studios and Tango Gameworks. This was not only bad news for fans of Redfall or Mighty Doom, the closure of Tango Gameworks was also dramatic for players of the rhythm-based action game Hi-Fi Rush.
One of the things that sets Hi-Fi Rush apart from many other games of this type is that not only do the protagonist, player and surroundings move to the rhythm, but the action of the game also adapts to the beat. This makes it less important to attack in the right rhythm, but the player is rewarded with stronger attacks and combos if he presses the buttons and keys with the right timing.
However, it seems that the end of the game is far from over after Krafton decided to buy Tango Gameworks - and with it the IP Hi-Fi Rush.
The head of corporate development at Krafto, Maria Park, recently explained in an interview that the first Rush will not only get DLCs, but it will even get a Nintendo Switch port in the future.
She also confirmed that she is working on a sequel and that the level design in Hi-Fi Rush 2 will change drastically. Instead of linear levels, an open-world-like structure is planned.
However, fans of other Tango Gameworks IPs will probably be disappointed. Neither "The Evil Within" nor "GhostWire: Tokyo" were part of the deal and will therefore probably not be continued.
