Marvel Rivals' method of improving FPS causes unusual rendering
Marvel Rivals’ Solution for FPS problems brings a new problem with it.
As players are complaining about the game's performance, Marvel Rivals is working on fixing these problems - but unfortunately new difficulties are also arising...
Performance problems
Marvel Rivals is still a fairly new game. The third-person 6v6 hero shooter in the Marvel universe was released in December 2024 and is currently only a few months old.
Some problems are therefore to be expected. One of them that players often mention is FPS drops or even crashes during matches. There were already corresponding posts in the official Marvel Rivals subreddit months ago.
The developers have now announced an experimental feature that is intended to provide a solution - but which currently still has some limitations that could annoy some players.
A possible solution?
The tested solution is called „Switch Shader Compilation Mode“ (switchable shader compilation mode) and offers the following advantages according to the official website:
- The shader compilation process only runs when the game is started for the first time after updating the game version or the graphics card drivers.
- The memory utilisation of the game is drastically reduced, which reduces severe FPS drops, frozen images and crashes caused by a lack of memory.
However, this solution still has a few problems at the moment:
- In each new match, some materials may initially be displayed unusually for a few frames before they appear normally again. Don't worry - the display will stabilise as the match progresses.
- In each new match, there may be brief stutters when rendering certain materials for the first time, but after that the images run smoothly.
- On systems with a limited number of CPU threads (6 or less), the simultaneous activation of Switch Shader Compilation Mode and AMD FSR3 Frame Generation can cause additional stutters.
Nevertheless, this is a first step, and the developers emphasise in their post that they want to listen to feedback and continue working on the game mechanics of Marvel Rivals.
