If NVIDIA had its way, soon no one would have to struggle through PUBG alone or with useless botmats - an AI extension is set to bring a new form of ally.

At CES 2025, NVIDIA, in partnership with Krafton, the PUBG developer, announced an innovative AI feature that will even replace annoying human players: The PUBG Ally.

This AI-supported expansion should make it possible for the first time to provide players with really helpful teammates who can authentically replace human teammates and act far better and more naturally than previous bots do.

According to NVIDIA, this marks the “Start of a new video game era”.

How good are the AI companions?

Where AI support has previously provided rather subtle assistance and was characterised by intelligent adaptation to the environment and enemy movement, PUBG Ally is set to go one step further.

The new Allies will be able to actively take on tasks that could otherwise only be performed by human mates and search for loot, drive cars, support you in battle and even revive you.

NVIDIA even published a concept video that showed the tactically clever approach of an AI mate - however, this should still be taken with a grain of salt, as it is a scripted video and it is not yet possible to say how a PUBG Ally could prove itself in a real battle scene.

The community is correspondingly divided.

The new feature is particularly controversial on Reddit.
On the one hand, there are fears that a proper balance between a merely useful and an overpowered AI can hardly be found, and you could either get an unfair advantage or a useless appendage.

On the other hand, some players are also looking forward to AI-supported partners who could end lonely sessions on a solo queue evening once and for all.

The community is sceptical, but certainly curious. Thanks to the generative AI architecture, there is at least the possibility that the system will continuously learn and adapt to the needs of the players.

The extent to which PUBG Ally will actually influence the Battle Royale experience remains to be seen - and as no official release date for the feature has yet been announced, this could still take a while.
