R.E.P.O. - how to defeat every level 1 monster
R.E.P.O. is full of different monsters that have to be defeated in even more different ways - here you can find out how to deal with all monsters on level 1.
R.E.P.O. is an online co-op horror game with a similar concept to Lethal Company. You and up to five other players have to explore different areas and search for objects to sell - if you don't manage to reach the required quota, you have to start from scratch.
You only have the Voice chat with proximity functionto find yourself in these halls populated by deadly monsters... But how do you even survive?
Each monster has its own mechanics, and this guide will show you what to look out for.
We will now go through the creatures from level 1 one by one.
Peeper
The Peeper is a creature that looks like a giant eye and is attached to the ceiling.
It remains inactive until a player runs directly underneath it and comes within range.
At this moment, the peeper opens up and forces the player to look it in the eye, causing it to take 2 points of damage continuously over time.
This effect ends immediately as soon as the player breaks eye contact.
This means that if you are affected, you must quickly hide behind objects or pieces of furniture so that the peeper no longer forces you to look.
Another option is to have a teammate carry you (button Q press) or attack the peeper - provided you have a weapon, as the peeper only has a few health points.
Shadow child
The shadow child is an eerily tall, gaunt humanoid figure with the disturbing face of a small child.
It appears near players through short-range teleportation, often directly behind doors or very close by - accompanied by quiet, ominous giggling.
When observed, the creature slowly and menacingly begins to grow six elongated arms from its upper body.
Prolonged eye contact triggers a sudden, startling reaction: The shadow child hurls the player forward with full force, causing devastating damage. 30 Damage points. After the attack, it disappears for a long time.
If you ignore it long enough, it teleports silently to another location and waits there for the next opportunity.
Technically, you can attack the Shadow Child, but as it doesn't pose a particularly big threat, it's usually worth saving weapons and valuable resources for more dangerous monsters.
Gnome
Gnome are creatures that always appear in synchronized groups of four.
As they roam the area, they stop unpredictably, but always stay close together with the other gnome units on the map.
As soon as they discover a player, their behavior changes:
If there are valuables nearby, the gnomes will first concentrate on sabotaging or stealing them.
If there are no valuables available, they direct their aggression directly at the player, chase him and attack as a group.
Fortunately, you can easily kill gnomes by grabbing them and throwing them against something.
If you are attacked by too many gnomes at the same time, you can simply jump repeatedly while you wait for reinforcements.
Apex predator
The Apex Predator is a creature that initially takes on the harmless form of a fluffy duckling.
As soon as it sees a player, it fixates on them and follows them, always trying to stay in the player's direct field of vision.
If the player jumps or looks up, the duckling imitates the movement in order to remain visible.
But this harmless impression is deceptive:
If the creature is grabbed or injured in any way, it goes into a frenzied state - its beak splits open to reveal a huge, fanged mouth.
It then launches into a merciless chase after the attacker or, if the attacker has escaped, the nearest player.
In this form, the apex predator strikes with terrifying speed - three bites per second.
As soon as the hunt begins, hiding is pointless. The only chance of survival is to run away - and fast.
If you manage to escape it long enough, it will return to its original form.
If you urgently want to get rid of it, you have the following options:
- Lure him into a toilet and flush him down.
- Go to the Ragdoll mode (keyQ press) until he loses interest and moves away.
- Crush it at an extraction point.
- Perform a tumble-launch on him to stun him and 15 Damage If he falls in the process, he may suffer further injuries. 25 Damage.
- Kill him with a Handgun.
Spewer
Spewer are flying creatures that drift around aimlessly until a player comes into their field of vision.
As soon as they spot a player, they quickly approach and try to cling to the player's face.
Once a spewer is attached, it exerts a disturbing influence:
The player's voice becomes deeper and uncontrollable vomiting fits occur at regular intervals.
These vomit explosions are dangerous and cause damage to anything they hit.
In defensive mode, spewers prefer to keep their distance and attack from afar by spitting vomit in jets at their targets.
Counter strategies:
- You can try to grab the spewer and keep it at a distance before it attaches itself to your face - although this is quite difficult without a range upgrade.
- Spewers can be stunned and killed by random valuables lying around.
- Alternatively, you can even use the spewer specifically as a weapon:
While it sticks to you, you can deliberately vomit on other monsters - a disgusting but extremely useful method of defense.
