Smite 2 is now available to play for free!
Smite 2 opens its Open Beta this week, inviting many players to explore the game for the first time. Fans of the third-person MOBA can also look forward to new content.
As already announced by Hi-Rez Studios, Smite moved from the paid alpha to the open beta phase on 14 January, giving a much wider range of players the opportunity to experience the game for the first time.
In the familiar MOBA style - albeit from a third-person perspective rather than top-down - you fight epic god battles in classic 5v5 and choose from an impressive number of 45 playable gods whose divine powers best suit your strategy.
Plenty of new content
Along with the switch to beta comes an extensive update with lots of new content such as new gods, additional game modes and the like, which are intended to expand the game even further.
The Joust and Duel modes are already regarded as highlights.
While in the former you fight intense 3v3 battles on a single-lane map and have to focus primarily on teamwork, in the latter you will encounter tough duels whose smaller maps require all your 1v1 experience.
The update also brings five new gods - including Aladdin, whose unique toolkit can even summon a wish-fulfilling djinni that instantly revives you, gives you bonus gold or resets all cooldowns.
The community is excited
The community is curious to see if and how the new focus on more player engagement and the new strategy regarding monetisation through in-game purchases will affect Smite 2.
Whether these new paths will be crowned with success, however, will probably only become clear in the coming weeks when it is clear whether the further development of the MOBA will be successful in this way.
