The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion - Everything new about release and gameplay

The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Alles Neue zu Release und Gameplay

Is The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion already knocking on the door? Find out what to expect and know so far here.

The rumours are intensifying

Speculation has been circulating for some time about a remake of the popular „The Elder Scrolls“-Offshoot Oblivion. Now the long rumoured rumours finally seem to be coming true: According to recent leaks, the new edition could be released sooner than many would have thought.

The first rumours were already making the rounds at the beginning of April that Oblivion is to be surprisingly reissued. The remake is apparently being developed by Studio Virtuos, which has already proven itself with the impressive Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has made a name for itself. The game is reportedly being created entirely in Unreal Engine 5, and leaked screenshots have recently emerged that not only show the new visual look, but also contain references to an official website.

Gameplay: A breath of fresh air for classic elements

An anonymous Virtuos employee revealed that the team is focussing on six areas of gameplay during the revision: Stamina, sneaking, blocking, archery, hit reactions and the HUD (user interface).

  • In future, blocking should be more orientated towards Souls-like games, after the original system was often perceived as sluggish and imprecise.
  • The sneaking system has been revised and now features more clearly visible symbols.
  • The stamina system has been adapted to reduce annoying knock-downs and improve the gameplay experience./li>
  • The user interface will be modernised and made more accessible - especially for a younger audience.
  • Hit Reactions provide noticeable feedback during attacks - for both opponents and the player.
  • Archery is getting a makeover to make it more dynamic and contemporary in both first and third-person perspectives.

Release probably still in April

The well-known leaker „Detective Seeds“ spoke out on X (formerly Twitter) and claimed that the release is scheduled for the week after the Elder Scrolls Online-anniversary event is planned - specifically from 21 April. Several sources have confirmed this information, and Seeds itself is convinced of its authenticity: „This project is 100% real - for all those who still have doubts.“
According to the leak, the remake will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Further details: code name and content

It is also interesting to note that the remake was already announced two years ago in a now-deleted Reddit post under the codename „Altar“ was mentioned in the leaked game files - exactly this name now also appears in the leaked game files.

Fans are also speculating whether the popular „Wizard’s Tower“-DLC will be directly integrated. A screenshot apparently shows that very tower, which speaks in favour of this theory. However, it remains to be seen whether other DLCs will also be included. In any case, Sheogorath's chaotic world in Unreal Engine 5 would be particularly worth seeing.

Competition from fan project Skyblivion

Not all fans are thrilled - especially as the fan remake Skyblivion is nearing completion. A dedicated team has been working on it voluntarily for over a decade, Oblivion in the engine of Skyrim to be realised anew. The release is currently planned for 2025, Skyblivion is to be released as a free total conversion mod for all owners of TES V.
