While long-time players will certainly feel a certain nostalgic charm when they see the graphics of the earlier regions of "The Lord of the Rings Online", these visuals are likely to be off-putting for potential new players.

Rediscover Middle-earth

Lord of the Rings Online is an MMORPG set in the world of Tolkien's Middle-earth. Released in 2007, it has been constantly evolving ever since, combining a wide-ranging open-world experience with familiar MMORPG elements to create a new, in-depth story.

Players create their own human, elf, dwarf or hobbit and travel with the character through Middle-earth. The huge open world includes the Shire, Rohan and Mordor and is full of exciting quests, dungeons and battles. The game is free-to-play, but can be expanded with additional content via a paid premium option.

Vote on the community's favourite areas

In order to be able to convince new players, the developers decided to extensively revise the starting areas of the game from 2025 onwards. However, the team prefers to let the community decide which areas to start with and has therefore called for a vote in the game's official forum, in which players can choose their favourite areas from ten regions.

The upcoming updates

Even though the developers have not yet revealed exactly what the new updates will contain, it is relatively clear that it will mainly be about visual updates and various quality-of-life improvements.

And even if the plan is to revise the entire map over time, the initial focus will be on the areas already mentioned and will also be approached according to the players' priorities.
