Blizzard's announcement is probably not really surprising, because anyone who knows the history of World of Warcraft could already guess what the next expansion for WoW Classic will be.

The WoW Classic expansions

Launched in August 2019, the classic version of WoW enjoys great popularity. This is partly due to the nostalgic effect of the game, of course, but also to the regular supply of new, old content. And after Blizzard expanded the game with "The Burning Crussade Classic" in 2021, "Wrath of the Lich King Classic" in 2022 and "Cataclysm Classic" in May of this year, it was clear that "Mists of Pandaria" would be the next to follow.

Although no exact date has yet been set, the release of "Mists of Pandaria Classic" has been scheduled for summer 2025, so that players still have time to complete the content of the previous expansions and then get to grips with the new content.

The controversies of Pandaria

When the upcoming expansion was first released in 2012, it caused a great deal of controversy. Players criticised the fact that the lively, peaceful world of the Pandaren did not fit into the dark world of World of Warcraft.

The contrast to the oppressive, epic atmosphere of the previous expansions was simply too great for many and the race of panda-like pandaren too playful and childish.

Over time, however, this changed and the expansion gained more and more supporters, not least due to the unfolding, dark story, the raids, which were much appreciated by many, and the enriching character developments.

It can therefore be assumed that Mists of Pandaria Classic will receive a much warmer reception than the old version did more than 10 years ago.
