The world of Baldur’s Gate 3 not only impresses with its enormous expanse, but also with the multitude of unique game experiences and freedom of choice that few fantasy role-playing games offer in this form. To help you get your bearings right from the start, we have put together the essential tips for beginners.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a multi-layered and detailed role-playing game based on the rules of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) based.
For newcomers in particular, the sheer size of the world and the countless possibilities can be overwhelming at first.
As the game does not explain every detail in detail, we have put together the most important tips for creating your own character.
The peoples of Baldur’s Gate 3
Creating your character is one of the most exciting moments in Baldur’s Gate 3. You have the freedom to create a unique character that perfectly reflects the way you play.
There are 11 playable races to choose from - each with their own strengths and abilities:
- Elves - Skillful, magically gifted and immune to sleep spells.
- Tieflings - Demonic lineage with fire-resistant skin.
- Drow - Dark elves with extraordinary magical powers.
- People - Versatile and adaptable, without extreme strengths or weaknesses.
- Githyanki - Warrior race with psionic abilities.
- Dwarves - High constitution and resistance.
- Half-Elves - A flexible mixture of human and elf.
- Halflings - Small, agile and hard to hit.
- Gnomes - Intelligent, resourceful and with special magical talents.
- Dragonbloods - dragon-like creatures with elemental powers.
- Half-orcs - Tough fighters with brute strength.
Whether you prefer to play a powerful sorceress, a fearless warrior or a cunning rogue - your character determines how you experience the world of Baldur’s Gate 3 experienced.
Subpopulations
Character creation can quickly take one to two hours - so take the time to design your hero carefully. Each race is very different from one another and offers its own strengths, abilities and even sub-races to further individualize the gaming experience.
- Elves are graceful, long-lived creatures with a natural gift for magic. While High Elves focus particularly on the art of magic, Wood Elves are known for their speed and reclusive life.
- Halflings may be small, but their courage and almost unshakeable luck make them excellent adventurers.
- Dwarves are famous for their tenacity, unwavering will and strong community ties.
- Humans are the most adaptable people and can be found in almost every region, allowing them to flexibly slip into different roles.
- Half-elves combine the characteristics of humans and elves, but often have difficulty fitting fully into either world.
- Halflings must keep their brute strength and martial heritage in check in order to find acceptance in civilized societies.
- Tieflings, with their demonic ancestry, are often viewed with suspicion, but possess impressive magical powers and a natural resistance to fire.

Choose the right class
After choosing your race, you have to decide on one of the 12 classes, which in turn are divided into 46 subclasses. Each class has unique game mechanics and abilities. Here are some examples:
- Barbarian - A fierce melee fighter with high damage resistance and brute strength.
- Cleric - A divine spellcaster with powerful healing and support abilities.
- Warlocks - Dark magicians with unique spells and supernatural pact powers.
- Magician - Master of the arcane arts with a huge selection of spells.
- Bard - A charismatic musician who empowers his allies and has outstanding social skills.
- Rogue - A silent thief with a high crit chance who picks locks and strikes from the shadows.
The strongest classes in Baldur’s Gate 3
The most powerful classes currently include the Bard, Cleric and Paladin:
- Bard - A versatile supporter with strong buffs and high charisma.
- Cleric - Extremely flexible due to their healing and support abilities, but can also be played offensively.
- Paladin - Combines high defense with strong single-target damage, making him one of the best fighters in the game.
